Why I like writable surfaces

Today groups wrote things they noticed about different elements in a movie we watched on Friday. I like that everyone was A) Moving B) Writing and C) reading what others wrote.

It also allowed me to deal with students who were being difficult. When there is this much movement in the class, there are bound to be some students who are off task. I was dealing with them, while their peers for the most part had their eyes to the wall, focusing on the images and writing. So invariably, when I returned from dealing with a student situation, there were more good things written on the walls. That's so much better than having everyone staring at the student who is wanting attention for acting out anyway.
